Book Review: Lord of the Flies – William Golding

Synopsis

Lord of the Flies , William Golding's classic tale about a group of English schoolboys who are plane-wrecked on a deserted island, is just as chilling and relevant today as when it was first published in 1954. At first, the stranded boys cooperate, attempting to gather food, make shelters, and maintain signal fires. Overseeing their efforts are Ralph, "the boy with fair hair," and Piggy, Ralph's chubby, wisdom-dispensing sidekick whose thick spectacles come in handy for lighting fires.

Although Ralph tries to impose order and delegate responsibility, there are many in their number who would rather swim, play, or hun...

My review

This must be one of the weirdest reviews to write because I really liked some parts of the book but still couldn't finish it.

Yeah, I did not finish this book. I gave up when I had only 20 minutes of reading to do (93%). I just couldn't finish.

But let's start from the beginning. The theme of the book is really good and interesting. I think survival in extreme conditions is a very interesting topic. Also I have the weirdest fascination with deserted buildings and cities so it was interesting to read what they found in buildings when they foraged them.

The biggest problem in the boo...

My review

Phew! I managed to read this! I was sure I'd like this because I liked The Vincent boys so much but unfortunately this one wasn't good.

First I couldn't decide if this one is an okay summer read or just clichéd shit but then I decided that, no, I do not like this and, yes, this indeed is very clichéd and shit. At first the plot was entertaining but after a while it just became plain boring because you just knew what was going to happen next and it all just felt so cheesy and unreal...

My review

I had very high hopes for this book because it has received such good reviews and because the summary sounded amazing.

The narrator is horrible. Her voice is lazy and it drags. She also pronounces weirdly. Also when she started a sentence her voice was high but it got lower and lower towards the end of the sentence until you almost couldn't hear.. That was seriously annoying. I don't want to listen to anything narrated by her.

I'm disappointed in the story. It was hard to follow because of all the random scenes at the beginning...

My review

The Notebook has gotten such great reviews but I don't know why. It wasn't good. I'm disappointed because I have read Sparks' Safe Haven and it was a really good book.

The book is very quick to read because it has so few pages but sometimes I still felt there were too many of them! Sometimes I just had to put the book down because I couldn't take it anymore..

The characters didn't raise any emotions in me and I guess it's because I didn't really get to know them. The book didn't give time for that...
